Illusion and reality are and constantly doing a dance in our minds. We see, speak, and interact with illusions, then go around calling them reality. Money, the illusion of wealth. Knowledge, the illusion of wisdom. Words, the illusion of substance. Photos, the illusion of experience. Flaunt around enough of the formers, and you’ll be filled with the alluring yet empty idea of the latter.

So when you look, listen, or observe something the mind organizes all of the information available into a single word or idea in an effort to provide structured meaning in a sea of chaos.

We have preconceived ideas of people we’ve never met and places we’ve never been, all based on some illusions we’ve seen over and over again. The illusions have structured your reality, and saved you from a bunch of lousy thinking… and who wants to do that!?

The upside is that once we are able to recognize these illusions we can play with them, not be manipulated by them, and life becomes a whole lot more enjoyable!

Don’t believe everything you see. And certainly don't believe everything you think.
